Rugs

We offer a wide range of rugs with diverse constructions, materials, designs, and places of origin. We cater to all your requirements and priorities.

Handwoven rugs undergo a meticulous process, interlacing the horizontal weft yarn onto the vertical warp yarn to create a sturdy foundation. The warp yarn at the ends of the loom creates the rug’s fringe, which is crucial for the rug’s quality. An authentic fringe is evidence of a well-crafted, handwoven rug. Without knots forming a pile on this foundation, the rug produced is known as a flatweave or ‘kilim’ in Turkish. Hand-knotting is a process in which every knot is individually tied to the foundation while weaving the rug, resulting in a pile.

Hand-loomed rugs are pile rugs created on a loom using an innovative technique that raises the warp yarn to form a looped or cut pile.

Hand-tufted rugs begin with a pattern drawn onto canvas, where yarn is shot through a mechanized “gun” to form loops on the canvas and build a pile, which is then trimmed for a smooth, cut-pile finish. A rubber or latex backing is applied to the back of the canvas to secure the loops.

Common natural materials for rugs are sheep wool, goat wool, cotton, jute, hemp, and silk.

When sourcing handwoven vintage rugs, we prioritize natural materials due to their durability and texture. After surveying thousands of vintage rugs and testing hundreds of swatches in the development of our Knotisse Design rugs, we have determined that wool reigns supreme as a rug material. Not only does it provide exceptional noise insulation, but it is also more resistant to stains than other materials. As such, wool is an optimal choice for most areas within your home or apartment. If you intend to place a rug in an area where moisture absorption is essential, such as near the bathroom, hemp or cotton may be a more favorable choice due to its ability to absorb moisture efficiently.

We ensure that the colors of our rugs are shown as accurately as possible.

Our rug photos undergo color correction to match their actual hue in natural daylight. Please bear in mind that differences in lighting conditions between your home and natural daylight may cause the colors to appear slightly different from how they look on our website.

For rugs with a higher pile, the colors may appear different depending on the side from which the rug is viewed. Therefore, it’s important to consider viewing the rug from multiple angles to get a full understanding of its color and overall appearance. This occurs because knotted rugs are created upright on a vertical loom, where the weaver pulls down on each knot before trimming the yarn. This positions the yarn to lean slightly in one direction and away from the other. Therefore, when viewing the pile angled towards you, the rug appears lighter. On the other end, when the pile is oriented away from you, the colors appear slightly more saturated. The effect becomes more noticeable as the pile height increases.

Finally, slight variations may occur in what you see on your computer due to differences in color, contrast, and brightness. In our product descriptions, we will also specify any possible inherent color variations.

All our rugs undergo a thorough selection, preparation, and cleaning procedure to guarantee the exceptional quality of a genuine vintage rug. Please be advised that since these rugs are vintage, natural imperfections might occur.

We meticulously handpick all of our vintage rugs from Anatolian villages, examining their durability and quality. Then, we transfer them to our cleaning and processing facility at Usak Cİty for inspection.

We clean rugs using traditional methods that have been used for many years to ensure their quality and longevity.

The tumble dusting chamber rotates gently back and forth, causing the rug’s woven foundation to bend and move in order to dislodge, agitate, and remove any dust effectively.

To wash, we first saturate the rugs with water and then apply a gentle, pH-balanced cleansing shampoo. Each rug is then hand-scrubbed using a soft-bristled broom before rinsing to get rid of any remaining residue.

The rugs are inspected one by one for color and unique patterns, then categorized into categories

Drying: The vintage rugs are cleaned and sometimes dyed then line-dried in a shaded area, allowing the wool to absorb its natural hues.

Regularly caring for your rug will ensure that it lasts for decades. Compared to synthetic rugs, our wool rugs tend to look cleaner for longer periods. This is due to the natural grooves in wool, which trap dirt, while synthetic rugs prevent dirt from settling in.

To keep your rug in top condition, we suggest vacuuming it regularly to remove dirt and grime. Depending on how often you use your rug, you can adequately vacuum it once or twice a month to prevent wearing down its fibers too quickly. If your vacuum cleaner has a suction attachment, use that instead of a rotary vacuum to avoid damaging the knots and fibers. Additionally, every few months, flip your rug over and vacuum its back to remove any grit from the foundation. For even wear over time, rotate your rug once a year.

Every 3-5 years, we suggest having your rug professionally hand-washed to ensure its longevity and appearance. Avoid steam or dry cleaning, as this can damage the rug’s fibers. Instead, a pH-balanced shampoo should be carefully applied by hand using a soft-bristled brush, followed by thorough rinsing. Repeat this process several times for optimal results.
